PROBE (Public Report on Basic Education) is an early example of the sort of work that inspired RoadScholarz. The report is based on a large field survey conducted in 1996, which covered a sample of 1376 households in 234 randomly selected villages in five states: Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.

RoadScholarz regularly conducts similar field surveys to evaluate the functioning of various welfare schemes in India. These are often followed up by public hearings and social audits. Check out below a list of some of our recent surveys.

Emergency Report on School Education

A recent survey of nearly 1,400 school children in underprivileged households brings out the catastrophic consequences of prolonged school closure in the last year and a half. In rural areas, only 8% of sample children are studying online regularly, 37% are not studying at all, and about half are unable to read more that a few words. Most parents want schools to reopen as soon as possible.

Jachha Baccha Survey (JABS) 2019 takes stock of PMMVY (Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana) and related issues of pregnancy and child-birth in rural India.

This survey evaluates the impact of ABBA (Aadhaar Based Biometric Authentication) on Public Distribution System (PDS) in Jharkhand.

This survey assesses the implementation of National Food Security Act (NFSA) in six of India’s poorest states: Bihar, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal.

This survey evaluates the performance of Public Distribution System (PDS) across nine states in India.

Public Evaluation of Entitlement Programmes (PEEP) is a survey of five entitlement programmes undertaken in twenty districts across ten major states. 

The programmes covered by the survey were: Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme, Mid-Day Meal (MDM) Scheme, Public Distribution System (PDS), National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) and Social Security Pensions.

States covered are: Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
