  • Public Report on Basic Education in India (PROBE) Part 1 and 2
    • PROBE 1: In 1996, the Public Report On Basic Education (Part 1) was published by a group of researchers in association with Centre for Development Economics. This report covered the populous states of north India in the quest for a diagnosis and a cure of the then education condition. The core of this report is the right of all children to elementary education. It is not a public report made to the government, but a people’s report made to Indian citizens.
    • Probe Revisited: The worrying findings of the PROBE Survey led to a second report published ten years later (in 2006) based on a survey conducted in the same states. When the investigators arrived, half of the government schools were still exempt of any teaching activity.
