Jachha-Bachha Survey (JABS) 2019
Maternity entitlements of Rs 6,000 per child are a legal right of all Indian women under the National Food Security Act. Ignoring this, the central government has launched a half-baked maternity benefit scheme, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), restricted to one child per woman with reduced benefits. The survey will cover 1 district each in Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha.
The purpose of the survey is not only to take stock of PMMVY, but also to probe issues related to pregnancy and child birth in rural India.
